“Shot Clock” in NCAA Baseball

clcokThe SEC has announced that they will utilize a shot clock in this years SEC Tournament in hopes of speeding up the game and producing a more fan friendly experience. Pitchers will have 20 seconds in between pitches and only are clocked when there are no runners on base. Violations will result in a ball. There will be a 90 second time limit in between half innings. If the hitting team is not ready at the 90 second mark, a strike will be called. When the defensive team violates the time limits, a ball is called. I can’t say that this is a bad idea, one of the reasons Major League Baseball is my least favorite level of baseball is because of the time it takes for seemingly routine happenings to occur. A lot can be attributed to television but at what point do you chase away enough fans to begin to see the TV time delays at detrimental. ESPN has the broadcast rights to the SEC tournament so I will be surprised if this actually goes through.
